A man who “executed” his neighbour after luring him to a meeting in a Birmingham street to talk about a debt.

A rogue surgeon who lied to land a £100,000 per year job was jailed for six years - as it was revealed his former Trust had paid out almost £2 million damages to his patients.

Kyle Needham, Sean Needham, John Needham

Four police offers suffered ''gratuitous and sustained' injuries at the hands of a father and two of his sons.

The trio have now been locked up for their crimes in which two female and two male officers were punched in the head and face, and one was bitten on the finger.

Kyle Needham, 19, Sean Needham, 22, and their father John Needham, 47, all of Kingsbridge Avenue, Hattersley, pleaded guilty to affray.

Sean Needham also admitted assault causing actual bodily harm in relation to a cut above one of the female officer’s eyes which needed medical treatment.

Kenny Field

A Birmingham robber who punched a pensioner more than 20 times has had his sentence increased by three years by the Court of Appeal.

When Kenny Field appeared in Birmingham Crown Court in November last year he was jailed for five-and-a-half years over the mixed martial arts-style ‘ground and pound’ attack on Michael Eagles.

But his time behind bars has been increased to eight-and-a-half years after Attorney General Jeremy Wright QC MP referred the original sentence to the Court of Appeal as unduly lenient.

Following the review, the Attorney General said he hoped it would “send out a message” about how such attacks could “not be tolerated”.

Lee MacDivitt

A robber who targeted an autistic woman at Dudley bus station has been jailed.

Lee MacDivitt approached the woman as she sat with friends and grabbed her handbag in March last year.

Police said the-29-year-old snatched the bag with such force that the handle was snapped off.

MacDivitt, of no fixed address, was jailed four years and eight months at Wolverhampton Crown Court on 22 January after admitting robbery.

Rundeep Bagga, David Dixon, Michael Osbourne, Vitaljus Zasinas, Timothy Joyce

Five gangsters involved in a massive guns and ammunition racket have been jailed for more than 30 years after 50 rounds of ammo were found on a pub car park.

Three of the criminals were tracked by police as they tried to a deal outside the Bradmore Arms in Trysull Road, Wolverhampton , last March.

They tried to escape and dumped the bag containing the stash of ammunition.

But one found his exit route blocked by a concrete bollard and another was found hiding out in bushes. All three were charged with conspiring to transfer or sell ammunition.

Worcestershire scammers

A group of evil fraudsters conned hundreds of sick and elderly victims out of £875k in a 'cynical' timeshare scam.

Run by nine Worcestershire scammers, the operation saw around 470 vulnerable people - often elderly and those in poor health - targeted in a three-part scam.

First, the victims were cold called by the scammers who falsely informed them prospective buyers had been found for their timeshare properties - most of which are in Spain.

However, the group demanded advance 'sale fees' from the victims to support the fake transactions.

Philani Ngcongo

A drug-taking banned driver hit 90mph during a police pursuit through Birmingham city centre before crashing in the Queensway tunnels.

Philani Ngcongo had been under the influence of cannabis as he reached potentially deadly speeds in a hired Audi A3.

The former Jaguar worker eventually lost control in the Queensway tunnels and his car ‘bounced’ off two walls.

The 26-year-old, of Kilburn Grove, Kingstanding, was jailed for 16 months and banned from the roads for 26 months after admitting dangerous driving and driving while under the influence of drugs.

Daniel Alston

A 27-year-old man who stabbed his friend following a play fight that got out of control, has today been jailed for 12 years at Stafford Crown Court for manslaughter.

On September 8 last year at around 11.30pm, a motorist was driving along Kerria Road in Tamworth when she saw a man lying on the pavement. She stopped and realised that he had been stabbed.

The emergency services were called and Daniel Wyatt was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital to be treated for several stab wounds.

A police investigation was launched and Daniel Alston, formerly of Bancroft, Tamworth, was arrested in connection to the attack. When questioned, he claimed that the two men had been at the victim’s flat in the town when they got into a play fight which escalated resulting in him picking up a knife and stabbing Mr Wyatt.

Bradley Simwanja

A drunk driver seriously injured a woman when he crashed into the back of a family car on the M6 - while drinking from a can of cider.

Bradley Simwanja had been “quite literally drink driving” when he ploughed into the Vauxhall Zafira after reaching speeds of up to 90mph.

Inside the car were Saira Pathan, her parents and three younger siblings.

Simwanja, of Chester Road, Erdington, had previously admitted causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving with excess alcohol. The 25-year-old was sentenced to two years and four months and banned from the roads for three years.

Benjamin Clarke

A serial sex offender who lives in an area labelled 'Millionaire's Row' in Sutton Coldfield has been jailed for 18 months after committing a series of assaults on women.

Benjamin Clarke, aged 42, of Walsall Road, Little Aston, was also placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years.

Clarke had pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting five women over a two-year period between 2015 and 2017. He pleaded guilty to nine counts of sexual assault.

He was sentenced at Stafford Crown Court.

Darren Hammond

A son who caused the death of his elderly mother by fracturing her ribs and then left her to “rot” at her Sutton Coldfield home has been jailed for 12 years.

The badly decomposed body of 81-year-old Beryl Hammond was found by police in her bedroom in August last year.

Darren Hammond denied, but was found guilty of the manslaughter of his mother between July 12 and August 12 by a jury, following a trial at Birmingham Crown Court.

He was acquitted of murder.

Former Birmingham University researcher Matthew Falder was jailed at Birmingham Crown Court on Monday after blackmailing victims into carrying out depraved sexual and physical acts.

The court was told The 29-year-old was one of Britain’s most prolific paedophiles.

Cambridge University graduate Dr Matthew Falder, who called himself ‘evilmind’ and ‘666devil’ during years of horrific online offending, closed his eyes as he was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court.

An elderly woman conned out of more than £60,000 turned the tables on her cruel tricksters by luring them into a police trap.

The 92-year-old was stung in a so called ‘Courier Fraud’ after Mohammed Irfan Butt phoned her Solihull home posing as a detective, claiming her bank account had been hacked.

He persuaded her to withdraw £8,300 in cash and hand it to Zohaib Khalid – a 20-year-old Aston University student paid to play the role of police courier.

Butt later called the pensioner again and talked her into buying two Rolex watches worth £53,000 from a town centre jewellers and asked her to again pass them to Khalid.

Tyler Uter

A knifeman who launched a frenzied attack on two brothers - leaving one with life-threatening injuries - was found hiding out in Birmingham.

Tyler Uter, aged 20, armed himself with a kitchen knife before viciously stabbing the brothers in Shelton, Stoke-on-Trent, on July 8 last year.

One was knifed four times - twice in the chest, once in the abdomen and once in the arm.

Medics battled to save the victim's life after the knife wounds resulted in a punctured lung, bowel and liver.

Daniel Bebb-Jones

A knifeman who was Tasered by police as he wore a fake suicide vest outside a Midland Territorial Army centre has been jailed.

The vest worn by Daniel Bebb-Jones was loaded with nails and screws.

He also brandished a fearsome array of weapons – two throwing knives, a hunting knife and an axe.

Police raced to the scene after he was spotted by passers-by outside a TA base in Kidderminster last June.

An interior designer who ripped off customers to the tune of tens of thousands of pounds has been jailed.

Jane Jobson took deposits of more than £10,000 a time for work on kitchens, bathrooms and house extensions.

But some customers got absolutely nothing in return – and others found that the work done was not what they ordered.

In some cases, work was started but never completed, leaving despairing householders’ lives in chaos.

Mihai Varga

A gangmaster from Handsworth who brought Eastern European workers to the UK and then paid them less than £2 an hour has been jailed for slavery offences.

Mihai Varga transported the men to work 12-hour shifts at a food processing factory in Staffordshire - but pocketed most of their wages and handed over just £20 for a day’s work.

The five Romanian men aged between 26 and 50 - who have since been safeguarded - were also kept in cramped conditions in a room at his home in Ashwin Road, Handsworth.

Officers executed a warrant and arrested Varga at his address last September as part of a joint investigation between West Midlands Police, the National Crime Agency (NCA) and Gangmaster and Labour Abuse Authority (GLAA).

Mehdi Madmoodi-Esfanjani

A Birmingham man raked in thousands of pounds by illegally helping Iranian asylum seekers enter the UK using bogus papers.

Mehdi Madmoodi-Esfanjani aided at least two women to enter the country using false documents, with one woman settling in the Roath area of Cardiff.

A South Wales Police spokesman said the 39-year-old made “thousands of pounds in the process”.

On Tuesday Mahmoodi-Esfanjani, from Birmingham, was jailed for three years at Newport Crown Court.

Adam Lyons

A basketball player-turned-drug-dealer has been jailed after a loaded pistol was found under his bed at his Birmingham home.

Police also discovered cocaine with a street value of up to £12,000 when they raided the address last December.

Adam Lyons, 30, of Plestowes Close, Shirley, was jailed for seven-and-a-half years.

He admitted possessing a prohibited weapon, possessing ammunition without a certificate and two charges of possessing drugs with intent.

Lee Embley

A gunman opened fire on a Birmingham pub - after being turned away for being drunk.

The man fired at a crowded pub in Harborne, before fleeing the scene and being dramatically arrested at gunpoint.

Lee Embley became angry at door staff who refused him entry into the High Street establishment.

He pleaded guilty to nine charges following the drama, which unfolded at around 9.05pm on 13 January, and at Birmingham Crown Court he was jailed for eight years for firearms and ammunition offences and another year for dangerous driving.

Dominic Wallis, Elizabeth Ellis

A mum-of-four was tied to a footstool, gagged and restrained with a cable and tape as she was brutally beaten to death.

Dionne Clark, 27, suffered 69 separate injuries to her face and head including an injury to her brain before she died. A court heard how she had been restrained using parcel tape, duct tape and a TV aerial cable by her two killers - who had been 'wrecked on cocaine'.

Her killers - Dominic Wallis, 28, and Elizabeth Ellis, 20, were last week found guilty of Miss Clark's murder following a two-and-a-half month trial at Birmingham Crown Court. See the video above to find out what each of the defendants responsible for Miss Clarke's death were sentenced to.

The pair were jailed for life imprisonment with a minimum of 18 years behind bars for Dominic Wallis and a minimum of 14 years for Ellis.

Trevor Molloy

A man sleeping in a caravan was forced to jump for his life from a window after the owner started a blaze.

The fire also spread to a nearby house, endangering the lives of the family inside.

Trevor Molloy, 42, who had previously admitted a charge of reckless arson, was jailed for four-and-a-half years.

He had been living in the caravan which was parked on a drive in Carshalton Road, Kingstanding, and connected to a house where a family, including Molloy’s registered carer, lived.

A fraudster who conned the system out of £48k in benefits was caught on camera working as a labourer - despite saying he could only walk 30 yards.

Michael Holland was filmed lifting heavy boxes and easily moving around while claiming thousands of pounds in disability allowance.

He was found to have been 'grossly exaggerating' his condition after secret surveillance showed the defendant working as a labourer for Aspire Housing. And Michael, who lives in the Midlands, had been claiming benefits for over 21 years, a court heard.

Holland pleaded guilty to cheating the public revenue to the tune of £47,913. He has now been jailed for ten months.

Callum Molloy

A Midland motorist who reached speeds of 75mph in a 30mph zone after failing to stop for police has been banned from driving for two years.

Police said Callum Molloy, 24, also received a 20-month suspended jail sentence after admitting charges of dangerous driving and driving with no insurance.

Molloy, from Castle Gresley, Swadlincote, Derbyshire, was ordered by a judge at Taunton Crown Court to complete unpaid work and pay costs.

The court heard that Pc Owen Davies tried to stop Molloy's Ford Fiesta on the M5 in Somerset as he was driving at 96mph through roadworks - where there was an advisory limit of 40mph in place.

A perverted nusery worker has been jailed for abusing a boy of three in his care.

Twisted James Riley was bought to justice when the young victim told his parents of his ordeal.

The 42-year-old was arrested at the nursery in Coventry and an iPad found by police at his home contained 181 indecent images and videos of young boys. Another 19 images were discovered on his laptop.

Riley, of Widdrington Road, Radford, was jailed for 12-and-a-half years at Warwick Crown Court on Wednesday after he was convicted of sexually assaulting a child and possessing indecent images of children.

David Williams

A knifeman who cut a stranger’s throat on a Birmingham street has been jailed for 14 years.

Stephen Ensor was lucky to survive after David Williams – a convicted rapist – attacked him in Soho Road, Handsworth, on July 6 last year.

Birmingham Crown Court heard Mr Ensor was an alcoholic and in poor health.

He had been sitting on a bench with others but walked away when someone made a racially-abusive comment. But Williams suddenly produced a blade, said to have been a nail file, and slashed his throat.

Edwin Allen

The ex-partner of a thug who left her with horrific injuries including a broken neck and jaw has praised police officers for ‘saving her life’.

Edwin Allen, of Bellbarn Road in Edgbaston, was convicted of grievous bodily harm and jailed 14 years at Birmingham Crown Court.

Police were in a patrol car at 5am in in Bishopsgate Street, Digbeth, on July 3 last year when they noticed the injured victim with Allen, 51, her then boyfriend.

Officers stopped and discovered the woman, 44, was covered in blood. A full examination in hospital later revealed she had suffered a broken neck, jaw and nose.

Adrian Brock

A knife attacker has been jailed for 23 years for trying to stab a man to death outside a pub, as police issue a tough warning to criminals who carry blades.

Adrian Brock stabbed his victim twice in the stomach in the beer garden of The Holyhead pub in Coventry, before telling police: “I wanted to kill him.”

The sentencing comes just days before West Midlands Police launches a week of action to bring down knife crime.

The victim, 34, was with his estranged wife at the time and she was in a relationship with Brock when the attack happened.

A greedy fraudster who fleeced a frail widow out of her £20,000 life savings – and used it to buy five drum kits – has been jailed.

Heartless Simon Roe also splashed out on fast food binges and video game consoles, using his housebound neighbour’s cash as his “own little lottery fund”.

He left the 80-year-old with just £13.33 in her account after she trusted him with her bank card to do her shopping.

Birmingham Crown Court heard Roe bought computer equipment, three iPads, a laptop and a PS4, as well as a leather sofa to sit on and play it.

Haroon Rafiq

A man who “executed” his neighbour after luring him to a meeting in a Birmingham street to talk about a debt has been jailed for life.

Haroon Rafiq launched a frenzied stabbing attack before slitting the throat of fourty-year-old Sajad Hussain.

Rafiq, 24, had denied, but was found guilty or murder following a trial at Birmingham Crown Court.

Judge Phillip Parker QC ordered he remain in jail for a minimum of 24 years before he could be considered for release.

Sudip Sarker

A rogue surgeon who lied to land a £100,000 per year job has been jailed for six years - as it was revealed his former Trust had paid out almost £2 million damages to his patients.

Sudip Sarker was today sentenced for the dangerous fraud after fabricating his surgical experience to land the consultant role at Alexandra Hospital in Redditch.

Cash-strapped Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust has now confirmed to the Birmingham Mail that it has paid damages to 19 of his patients, totalling £1,970,574.

Inquests are due to take place into the deaths of four of his patients who underwent operations at the Alex, where he worked from August 2011 until June 2012.

Members of 61 gang

Three members of Birmingham’s 61 gang have been jailed for firearms offences and drug dealing - including one who was with Sharif Cousins when he was shot by armed police.

Jamael Scarlett, Courtney Farrell, both aged 21, and Jamaal Ahmed, 23, appeared in the notorious Trapline Jump grime video.

Filmed at night on a residential street in Northfield, it showed hooded and masked youths rapping about guns and gangs and making chilling threats to rivals.

Now the three men are behind bars after police used community intelligence, DNA evidence and social media messages to link them to firearms offences - despite no gun ever being found on them.

Daniel Fitzpatrick

A homeless man has been jailed for killing a man he called his ‘brother’ with a single punch.

Daniel Fitzpatrick, aged 27, of no fixed abode was found guilty following a week-long trial at Birmingham Crown Court for the manslaughter of Philip Leonard.

Mr Leonard, aged 34, was found with fatal head injuries in Birmingham city centre last summer .

He was taken to hospital in the early hours of July 28, 2017 with serious head injuries.

Frankie Whitehead, Benjamin Bailey

Two Rugeley men who rammed a police car in an attempted getaway have been jailed at Stafford Crown Court on Thursday (February 1) for their part in selling cocaine on the streets of south Staffordshire.

Officers spotted Frankie Whitehead and Benjamin Bailey dealing drugs in the town on November 17 last year and followed the suspects to the Co-op supermarket, in Red Brook Lane, Brereton.

In an attempt to escape the police who had blocked their vehicle in, Whitehead reversed at high speed ramming a marked police vehicle before speeding off again and crashing into a nearby car park wall.

His actions left two police officers injured and members of the public had to run for safety before the car came to a stop. Both defendants ran off but were caught nearby by officers.

Two Wolverhampton men have been jailed for conspiracy to supply cocaine and cannabis

Two men have been jailed for conspiracy to supply cocaine and cannabis - despite being found with no drugs in their possession.

The pair, from Wolverhampton, were investigated following a series of gang-related incidents.

Iko Anderson, of Glentworth Gardens, was arrested on Thursday 26 January 2017 for his violent behaviour during a number of fights between rival gangs in December 2016.

Anderson was one of six gang members issued with an injunction in a crackdown on gang violence in the city in July 2017.
