YouTube vlogger and video game critic John Bain has died aged 33.

His wife Gemma Bain announced the sad news on Thursday evening via his Twitter account.

In 2014, John - best known online as TotalBiscuit - was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2014, which went into remission. But last year he announced that his cancer had returned and spread to his liver and spine.

His grieving wife shared a poem on Twitter paying tribute to her husband and told his fans: "I'm more overwhelmed with grief than I can possibly express.

"Friends/family, please know that I will notify you all of any memorial service planned for John."

At the end of last month John released a statement saying he would be retiring from being a games critic, tragically telling fans he didn't "have long left".

He wrote: "My liver is failing and its effectiveness has lowered past the point where the clinical trials I had been offered would take me on. Yes apparently there are things that are too dangerous for even the terminal.

"Obviously we’re going to keep looking for other trials but I’m currently coming to terms with the fact that I don’t have long left and right now at any rate, there is literally nothing I can do about it other than try to manage the pain as best as possible and stay as hydrated as possible to ease the pressure on the liver."

Bain, who studied at De Montfort University in Leicester, was known for his role in professional casting for games and gaming commentary videos.

He had over two million subscribers on his YouTube channel.
