A new horror game, Nightmare Frontier, has been revealed with a new gameplay trailer. Developer Ice Code Games has taken an entirely fresh spin on the classic extraction shooter set-up. Not only does the game introduce elements of horror, but it also takes inspiration from classic turn-based tactical games like XCOM to perfect an intriguing new meld. With early access on the horizon, players will have the opportunity to see how the developers pull the combination off.

Nightmare Frontier Juggles Many Different Styles

Nightmare Frontier aims to be many things at once, something that players have been seeing come out of the tactical genre a lot in recent months. In this case, the spin is horror wrapped in the essence of an extraction shooter/looter. The goal of Ice Code Games was to take inspiration from the best of the turn-based tactical genre, with “gun-n-slash” combat similar to XCOM, and piece it together with elements of loot and a risk-reward system that pushes players to the brink.

As reported on IGN, the team describes what they are to accomplish with Nightmare Frontier:

“The story of Nightmare Frontier unfolds in an alternate version of 19th-century America, shortly after a mysterious event that forever changed the world. The line between reality and an unknown horror has started to fade, and those who remain are left to uncover what truly happened that night – and what’s behind the titular Nightmare.

The streets were overrun by monsters emerging from the dark abysses of the terror dimension – the survivors called these creatures Dreadweavers. These beings are the physical embodiment of people’s deepest fears. Players will step into the shoes of the ringleader, who, despite overwhelming terror, finds a chance for survival in this new reality. Leading other scavengers, they venture deep into the city, risking everything they have left in search of loot.”

If it is still hard for you to visualize what Nightmare Frontier is aiming for, the team says to “think XCOM meets Hunt: Showdown with a dash of Cthulhu thrown in.” Well, that is certainly a mix, but a highly intriguing one. The further a player gets, the more the Nightmare Level increases, and this is where the risk-reward plays out. Putting your team in more danger makes it harder to win, but the team earns more and better loot in the process.

Final Thoughts

Nightmare Frontier offers a ton of excitement and intrigue for its future that players can definitely get hyped for. The game is set to release on PC at some point, and can be wishlisted now. Ice Code Games will be releasing an early access version of the game in summer 2025, although the exact date is not yet known. Make sure to check back and see how the developers pull off the engaging mix!

Maple Leafs Reportedly Interested in Landing West All-Star

The Toronto Maple Leafs have been one of the more interesting teams across the NHL during the offseason. After losing star Mitch Marner in free agency, Toronto's front office has been looking around the league for more help. Toronto fell short of its ultimate goal once again, and many around the league have expected the team to make some big changes. The Maple Leafs have been exploring different avenues to add to the team, and one route could see them potentially making a deal for an All-Star. While on Leafs Morning Take, NHL insider David Pagnotta mentioned that Toronto has been poking around about going after St. Louis Blues star Jordan Kyrou. "I think the Leafs "poked around on Jordan Kyrou"; I don't think there was anything close there, but it's somebody they checked in on; could they poke around on Evan Rodrigues?" Pagnotta said. Kyrou has been on the trade block this summer, and Toronto could look to get involved in it all. Adding a player like Kyrou to the mix could be a strong addition for the Maple Leafs, and he could help fill in for the loss of Marner. Last season, Kyrou posted 36 goals and 34 assists for the Blues. His production was a big reason why St. Louis made the playoffs, and he performed well in the limited time in the postseason. Kyrou put up three goals in seven postseason games for St. Louis last season. Toronto needs players like Kyrou to help them get over the hump come playoff time.

Draymond Green Had Three Words After Major Shaquille O'Neal News

Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green is entering his 14th NBA season. A four-time NBA champion and nine-time All-Defensive team member, Green has a spot in the Basketball Hall of Fame once his playing days are over. Having spent his entire career in Golden State, Green has been integral to the dynasty built alongside Steph Curry and the recently departed Klay Thompson. Widely regarded as the heart and soul of the Warriors, Green's outgoing approach to the game is part of what makes him so invaluable. This personality has also landed Green different media opportunities, including alongside Shaquille O'Neal, Charles Barkley and the NBA on TNT crew. Green and O'Neal have had some great banter in their television appearances together. The two have also shared postgame moments when Green joins the TNT broadcast as a player to be interviewed by the Inside the NBA analysts. Earlier this week, some major news was announced regarding O'Neal. The former Los Angeles Lakers champion will be honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, not too far from where he won three championships in Downtown Los Angeles (h/t Billboard). Reacting to this news, Green made a post on his Instagram story. O'Neal has done a lot in his career, both on and off the court. While he is best known for being a four-time NBA champion and 15-time All-Star, his contributions off the court have been equally as significant. This is seen in his broadcasting career, numerous business ventures, and philanthropy.

Blue Jays extend win streak, AL East lead in wild walk-off win

It's the Toronto Blue Jays' league right now, and everybody else just happens to be playing in it. The hottest team in baseball kept it rolling on Friday night with a 4-3 win against the Los Angeles Angels, not only extending their winning streak to six consecutive games, but also their American League East lead to two games over the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays. Friday's win was especially wild given the way it ended. Following a leadoff walk by Nathan Lukes in the bottom of the 10th inning to put runners on first and second, third baseman Ernie Clement was called on to drop a sacrifice bunt to move the winning run to third base. It ended up working out better than anybody could have possibly anticipated. Pitcher Sam Bachman fielded the bunt and then attempted to fire an off-balance throw toward first base. He missed badly, allowing the winning run to walk across the plate. It continues what has been a stunning turnaround in the Blue Jays' season as they have not only climbed to the top of the division, but now have a multiple-game lead. It's also the first time they have won 50 of their first 88 games of a season since 1992, when they won the first of their two World Series titles. Back on May 25, the Blue Jays were on the losing end of a 13-0 decision to the Rays to drop to 25-27 on the season. Since then, they have gone 25-11 and are starting to look like a legitimate playoff contender in the American League. Things can change very quickly in professional sports.

Commanders quietly love this fast riser (and fans are starting to notice)

The Washington Commanders' offense was good last season, thanks in no small part to the dynamic partnership of quarterback Jayden Daniels and wide receiver Terry McLaurin. Although positive, they cannot do it alone. Adam Peters knew what was needed. The Commanders prioritized the supporting cast around Daniels, finding a new bookend tackle tandem and more explosive playmakers capable of making things happen with the football in their hands. That should get them a lot closer. Deebo Samuel Sr. gained the majority of headlines, and rightfully so. The All-Pro is a difference-maker and comes to Washington with a huge chip on his shoulder. However, there's another new arrival who's rising quickly up the ranks to potentially carve out a bigger role than expected. And fans are starting to notice. Jaylin Lane is forcing the issue, and Commanders fans have taken note The Commanders took Jaylin Lane at No. 128 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft. This was far lower than his projection, according to most analysts, which hints that Washington might have another gem on its hands. And being overlooked for so long in the process lit a fire within the wideout that's only growing larger. To say that Lane hit the ground running this offseason would be an understatement. The former Virginia Tech star was nothing short of relentless, catching the eye through his unique blend of speed, elusiveness, and exceptional footwork. He's a route technician capable of making an impact at all three levels of the field. And the sooner Kliff Kingsbury finds a way to involve him, the better his offense will be. Lane got plenty of chances to impress with Noah Brown, Michael Gallup, and contract holdout Terry McLaurin all missing time during Washington's offseason program. The rookie took full advantage, and it's given the coaching staff no option other than to rotate him with the starting unit moving forward. This was just the first objective for Lane. He's going to do whatever it takes to get involved. Whether it's on the offensive rotation, as a decoy stretching the field, or in the kick return game, all he wants is to be part of something special and thrive in whatever task he's given. And if he keeps up these performance levels when things get heated at training camp, he'll be more than deserving of the involvement coming his way. It's a crowded wide receiver room if everyone is available. Some tough decisions await the Commanders, but Lane is already well on course to earn more than his fair share right out of the gate. That's a win-win for the player and the Commanders. There's no doubt whatsoever about that. More Commanders news and analysis
