Blacksburg is getting ready to rock!

Metallica is making its way to Virginia Tech on Wednesday.

Thousands of fans will fill the stands of Lane Stadium in just a few days.

They'll be singing along to that iconic "Enter Sandman," along with the actual band this time.

Annie Dehaan is a freshman student at Virginia Tech, and she is expecting an amazing experience.

"Growing up, my dad has always played Metallica on his guitar, and we have kind of just always known it. I'm excited to have them here and spend the night with them," Dehaan said.

Dehaan is anticipating this event to be full of energy.

I feel like it will be electric. Everyone will be so excited. I feel like it will be loud and just happy," Dehaan said.

This stop is part of Metallica's North American leg of the M72 world tour.

Students, like Dehaan, said they are looking forward to the performance with anticipation.

Construction is currently underway for the stage, which should be done by Monday.

Super fans, like George Probst, are excited to have the concert in their backyard.

Probst is a former tech athlete, and the Blacksburg show will be his 103rd Metallica show.

He said this energy will be like football games, but even more intense.

"It's hard and fast, that type of energy, at Virginia Tech football games when, you know, when the 'Let's go Hokies, let's go Hokies.' You know, it's that same type of energy when the football team comes out on the field, and they play Enter Sandman, but it's going to be sustained for about two hours," Probst said.

The executive associate AD at Tech, Brad Wurthman, expects the campus to be chaotic, but in a great way.

"We are in the business of memorable experiences. This is one of those days for 70,000 people, this is a one-time only experience."

He said it has been a collective effort to turn this dream into a reality.

"A lot of people worked hard to make it happen, and a lot more worked hard to pull it off after the fact," Wurthman said.

Campus leaders are hoping this concert will bring an economic boost to the Blacksburg area.

All the tickets are completely sold out.

The concert starts at 6 p.m. on May 7.
