BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Sports Complexes have opened in Panama City Beach and Lynn Haven in recent years. Soon, athletes in Southport will have one of their own.

Constuction began this past January on the 37-acre complex located off Highway 77. It includes six fields for softball and baseball, as well as a walking track around the entire complex.

It also includes a tower for announcers to call games from and a dedicated area for concessions.

Bay County Commissioner Doug Moore says the complex has been in the works for a while. He says the county is thrilled to construct a facility that caters to young athletes in the Southport area.

“Southport has got a lot of activities going on. There’s a lot of softball, baseball youth teams, so it’s something that’s been needed for a while. It’s expanding our capacity of being able to meet the needs of our community,” said Moore.

The total investment in the project is $13.6 million. The county says that the estimated opening date is in January 2026.
