South Africa defeated Tanzania in Group A of the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations. Thanks to this result, South Africa earned its first points in the competition. On the other hand, Tanzania lost the opportunity to top the group.

The U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (also known as the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations or U-20 AFCON) is a soccer tournament organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for national teams of players under 20 years of age.

Suez Canal Stadium, also called Suez Canal Authority Stadium, is a soccer stadium located in the city of Ismailia, Egypt. The stadium is owned by the state-owned Suez Canal Authority, the operator and administrator of the Suez Canal. The 21,000-seat stadium is located within the El Qanah Olympic Park, which also features an Olympic-size swimming pool and diving facilities, and a field field hockey stadium. The facility was built on the site of the former Suez Canal Stadium, work began in 2019 to demolish the old 10,000-seat venue. A modern, larger capacity stadium was planned. Construction work began in mid-June 2019 and was to be completed in 2021, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic there were delays in the schedule. An investment of 500 million Egyptian pounds (about €15.3 million) was invested in the construction. During the construction period, several sports fields, parking lots and a helipad were built, as well as a mosque near the stadium. The stadium is divided into four individual grandstand sections (the main covered and opposing grandstands and the two curved grandstands). The grandstand has boxes, including the exclusive presidential box with bulletproof glass. The eight-lane blue synthetic track encloses the hybrid turf playing field.
