Tesla Shares New Look Inside Semi Factory in Nevada [VIDEO]
Tesla shared an update today on the progress of its Semi factory at Gigafactory Nevada, giving a first look inside the new building.
Dan Priestley, who leads Tesla’s Semi program, said construction has been underway for several months. “We’ve been spending the last several months constructing this building, mostly with the walls, all of the pillars and columns that you see behind me, laying concrete, putting the roof on,” he explained in the video. Now, Tesla is starting to install equipment and prepare the site for production.
The factory is built to handle up to 50,000 Semis per year. “Over the next several quarters, we’re going to be industrializing this factory, installing the equipment, and preparing for high-volume production,” said Priestley. He added that Tesla plans to have the first units on the line by the end of this year, with a full ramp-up continuing into 2026.
The Tesla Semi is designed to swap in for diesel trucks without requiring compromises from operators. Priestley called it “an instrumental product in helping advance Tesla’s mission,” adding that “there’s a lot of exciting stuff coming through the next year, not just here in the factory, but also in the product itself.”
Pilot Tesla Semis have already been operating in Tesla’s own fleet and other partners’ fleets over the past few years. Priestley said these trucks have helped prove that “electric trucking is ready for scale.”
