The recall has been rated as Class II. According to the FDA, Class II recalls are those involving products that “may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.”

According to the FDA, the recall is due to the potential presence of patulin, a toxin mainly found in rotting apples. Patulin contamination can occur in a variety of apple products, including apple juice, sauce, puree, ciders or baby food. Consuming contaminated products can cause nausea, gastrointestinal issues and vomiting.
