His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and other leaders in the Gulf-state have sent congratulatory messages to His Excellency Dr Julius Maada Bio, President of the Republic of Sierra Leone on the occasion of his country’s 64th Independence Anniversary on 27th April 2025.
The move from the UAE leaders demonstrates the strength of bilateral relations between the two friendly nations that continue to collaborate in various areas of shared interests including, trade, education and healthcare.
In a similar gesture, the African Group of Diplomats in the UAE also sent congratulatory messages to President Dr Julius Maada Bio, the Government and People of Sierra Leone. Received by Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to the UAE, Rashid Sesay, who also serves as the Dean of the African Group of Ambassadors in the UAE, the messages also conveyed best wishes for continued peace, prosperity and success in Sierra Leone.
In his Independence Address to the nation, His Excellency President Dr Julius Maada Bio discussed progress made by his government in the areas of education, healthcare, agriculture and infrastructure despite the stifling effects of COVID-19 pandemic and the global economic meltdown.
“The spirit of independence is not just about our freedom; it is about taking responsibility in lifting our country and ensuring that no one is left behind in the nation’s development,” he said, while also appreciating his compatriots for their courage and determination to foster peace and harmony in the country.
Earlier, State House in Freetown announced that the theme for this year’s Independence Anniversary is: “Deepening national consciousness and national cohesion in a troubled world”. The commemoration is expected to be observed through prayers and services in mosques and churches across the country.
