Borden Ladner Gervais LLP has brought intellectual property litigator Noelle Engle-Hardy in as a new partner on its IP team.
The registered trademark agent has tackled IP disputes, trademark clearance, copyright, industrial design, and trade secret protection. She has also overseen significant trademark portfolios for global brands, advising on matters related to clearance and enforcement of industrial design and copyright.
She has handled IP litigation at all stages, including motions, trials, and appeals at the Federal Court, Federal Court of Canada, and Provincial Courts. She has appeared before the Trademarks Opposition Board and in Copyright Board of Canada proceedings.
Engle-Hardy concentrates on anti-counterfeiting, confidential information and trade secrets, brand management, packaging, labelling and regulatory compliance in Canada, and French language law issues for Canadian brand owners. She has prepared and negotiated complex commercial agreements for the acquisition, sale and licensing of intellectual property rights and assets.
She has worked on matters in the following sectors:
Her clients have included major Canadian real estate developer, a large dairy group, and a significant retailer. She has handled claims for passing off, infringement, oppositions, and the expungement of registrations adverse to a large-scale US-based real estate and entertainment developer and operator.
Prior to BLG, Engle-Hardy was the vice office managing partner in Cozen O’ Connor LLP’s Toronto office. She also logged stints at Smart & Biggar as a senior associate, Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP as an associate, and Bereskin & Parr as an associate, barrister and solicitor, and trade mark agent, according to LinkedIn.

Engle-Hardy will practise from BLG’s Toronto office. The firm also welcomed Zoë Thoms as a counsel in the corporate commercial group, Alyson Sutton as an associate in the insurance and tort liability group, and Richard Ngo as a senior associate in the financial services group.
