A massive tornado in Omaha caused damage to the Nebraska city's airport - Eppley Airfield - on Friday. The airport said on X, platform formerly known as Twitter, that it is currently closed due to storm activity. Locals can expect a delay in airlines.
"Eppley Airfield (OMA) remains closed for a damage assessment. The OMA terminal is unaffected and passengers are out of shelters. Please contact your airline for any flight delays," the airport further added. The announcement came after multiple twisters were spotted in Omaha, possibly over the Eppley Airfield.
"Passengers in the OMA terminal are being moved to the storm shelters," the airport had said earlier.
Several social media users, including locals and storm chasers, posted videos of the tornado and warned residents about destruction.
"Pray for Nebraska—there were tornado sightings Friday afternoon with AccuWeather reporting one northwest of Omaha as a “menace on radar” with a debris ball 1+ mile wide Residents in the Lincoln & Omaha metro areas were told to seek shelter “immediately”," one person wrote.
"One of the most craziest & terrifying video of ongoing Tornado in Nebraska, Omaha! These scenes are not from a Sci-fi movie or AI generated twisters visuals, it's happening for real right now ! 🤯" another one posted along with images of the tornado.
Meanwhile, the National Weather Service (NWS) issued tornado warnings for multiple Nebraska counties, including: Antelope, Boone, Butler, Cass, Douglas, Gage, Jefferson, Madison, Platte, Saline, Sarpy, Saunders and Seward.
