Central Arkansas man is pro video game player
HOT SPRINGS, AR (KAIT/KATV) - Unsure what the future held for her son, Latoya Portlock was extremely excited when she received the news her son was drafted in the first NBA 2K draft last month.
According to KATV, out of hundreds of thousands of applicants, seven teams drafted six players each, and 21-year-old Trey Hendrix made the cut.
Online, he's known as All Hail Trey, a 6'9" NBA 2K player known for drilling three's.
Trey said it took hours, sometimes 10 to 12 hours a day, to perfect his skills.
"And I would always ask him...what do you want to do?" says Portlock. "You know...you work. You know...you work at a job and you're just playing the video game. What do you want to do with your life? And he was just...he really didn't give me a definite answer. So I did have concerns."
The league guaranteed him $32,000 for six months of work.
He left for Toronto on April 16 and lives in a home with his teammates with all expenses paid.
The team flies back-and-forth to New York to play games.
Games will be live-streamed on Twitch TV starting this week.
