Leduc man charged in a homicide investigation

Alberta RCMP Major Crime Unite is investigating a homicide in the Leduc.

Alberta RCMP Major Crime Unit has charged a 45-year-old man after an alleged homicide in Leduc. 

On May 7, 2024, Leduc RCMP received a report of a well-being check on a man at an apartment building on 50 Street in Leduc, Alberta RCMP said in a media release on Thursday, May 9.

Upon entering the apartment, police located a deceased male. The man was transported to the office of the Chief Medical Examiner and the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit was deployed to take over the investigation. 

The deceased has been identified as Leduc resident Leonard Harry Belcourt, 74. 

As a result of the investigation, on May 8, the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit, with assistance from the Leduc RCMP General Investigations Section, charged a Leduc resident, 45, with second-degree murder.

He was taken before a Justice of the Peace and remanded into custody with his next court date set for May 10, 2024, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Edmonton.
